Shropshire Paddlesport

Description

The aim of the club is to provide paddlesport opportunities and coaching for everyone; those who simply enjoy recreational paddling on placid water, those who seek the challenges and excitement of white water, others who want to get fit, race or even those who have ambitions to compete for their country!

The term “paddlesport” covers all types of canoeing and kayaking and the club has a range of boats of different types which are available for use by members. There are a large number of different paddlesport disciplines and we offer a variety of those, based upon the desires of our members and practical considerations (for example Shropshire offers limited opportunities for surf or sea kayaking…).

We have a large group of qualified coaches, and we are affiliated to the British Canoe Union (BCU), the sport’s national governing body. We hold the Clubmark accreditation which defines a set of core criteria to ensure that clubs work to a set of consistent, accepted and adopted operating standards.

“Sport England recognises and values the commitment made by sports clubs to develop high quality, welcoming environments for young participants. The development of clubs that encourage young people to take-up sport, improve their talents and give them the option to initiate and maintain life-long participation in sport is an essential part of our work to support the sporting infrastructure in England.”

The club operates a rigorous safety policy on and off the water to ensure that both paddling activities and the wider issues concerning the protection of children and vulnerable adults are closely controlled.
