Other disabled people are being encouraged to get involved in cricket on the Island. The team train every other Tuesday at Newclose CC, between 18:00-19:30 – minimum age of 8.

A Disability Cricket Holiday course for those aged 9-19 is also being held at Newclose CC on 12th and 19th August, from 13:00 until 15:00. The event is free of charge – just bring snacks and a drink. To book contact stuart.chatfield@iwcb.org.uk.

Manager – and player – Jayden Frankling says the team are trying to compete with bigger counties such as Hampshire and Sussex. But, to do so they need more players.

He said:

“The more players we get the better teams we can get.

Not saying the team’s not very good at the moment but competition is always healthy and any players we can get we can up the teams and maybe even get to two teams.”

Jayden is urging those interested not to worry about their cricketing ability. He says it is just about taking part:

“It’s just about giving it a go really. Obviously cricket is not everyone’s cup of tea. It’s a light activity. It’s not strenuous. It’s mainly about getting together with like minded people or people who may be similar to you with your disability.

It’s just about getting together and having that social aspect that some disabled people probably don’t get in their lives.”
